For centuries, Kashmir's carpet industry has been well-known.

In the 15th century, weavers from Persia and Central Asia went to Kashmir and created the prosperity of the carpet industry.

Since then, it has dominated the Indian and Western markets due to the exquisite artwork involved in making each work.

In the 1990s, carpet weavers shifted their attention from wool carpets to silk carpets.

Today, craftsmen are incorporating new designs and techniques into art. For the first time, artists began to use calligraphy works on these silk carpets.

Most of these carpets are sold abroad, catering to current trends in the global market.

Labor-intensive handicrafts attract young craftsmen and designers who are keen to promote Kashmir’s unique handicrafts to the world.
